MUMBAI, November 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ —
Alumni of SPJIMR’s pioneering entrepreneurship programmes, Start Your Business (SYB) and Grow Your Business (GYB) will be back on campus this weekend for an evening of networking and celebrations to honour the winners of the first ever alumni entrepreneurship awards.
The event this Saturday (November 12), billed as ‘Connect, Collaborate & Co-create’ will bring together over 200 alumni from various GYB and SYB programme batches conducted over the last several years by SPJIMR, making it one of the largest collection of entrepreneurs on campus.
Prof. M. Suresh Rao, Chairperson of the SPJIMR Centre for Entrepreneurship, which runs the SYB and GYB programmes said, “Traditionally, entrepreneurship has been the preserve of the business community. It is only recently that we are seeing the emergence of first generation entrepreneurs from non-business communities. SPJIMR’s SYB and GYB programmes are designed to provide the knowledge, the skills, the attitude and the eco-system for these first generation entrepreneurs to create sustainable ventures.”
The SYB programme (http://spjimr.org/syb/aboutsyb) for aspiring entrepreneurs was launched in 2005 and stands out as one of India’s longest running independent entrepreneurship programmes housed at SPJIMR, a top ranked school of management.
The GYB programme (http://spjimr.org/gyb/aboutgyb) is tailored for entrepreneurs looking to accelerate their growth, was launched in 2011. The GYB programme is uniquely structured for entrepreneurs, founders or key decision makers of small businesses.
Between them, SYB and GYB have built an alumni eco-system that comprises 400 young entrepreneurs rich with exciting ideas and eager to learn from each other, supported by experts, mentors and investors. SPJIMR is equipped to add value beyond the programme through activities like start-up mentoring, workshops, facilitating co-working among alumni and providing access to funding through its newly minted incubation centre.
At the alumni meet, SPJIMR will recognise alumni who have achieved significant growth in their business after participating in GYB or SYB programmes. Faculty will be recognised for their excellent academic contribution and commitment to the programmes over the years.
The Dean of SPJIMR, Dr. Rajan Banerjee will address the gathering and give away the awards.
Alumni have warmed up to the idea of an on-campus meet to reconnect, celebrate their journeys and build on their work. Reacting to the highlight of the agenda, a structured business networking session among alumni, a participating alumni entrepreneur, Priyesh Shah said, “I am excited at the opportunity to professionally network with fellow alumni for mutual benefit.”
